A recent poll by Global InfoAnalytics has unveiled a significant rise in support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer, among first-time voters. This shift in voter sentiment, particularly among younger demographics, is notable as the 2024 election approaches.

Musah Dankwa, the Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, shared in a media interview that the survey, which included over 7,000 respondents, revealed a strong preference among young people for Dr. Bawumia as the ideal candidate to lead Ghana. Dankwa highlighted that Dr. Bawumia’s recent nationwide campaign tour has not only revitalized the NPP but also significantly increased his popularity.

He further stressed that first-time voters will play a crucial role in the upcoming December general elections. “If you examine the polling numbers closely, you’ll see that Bawumia’s gains are largely from first-time voters. In the April poll, he [Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia] was trailing significantly, but now he is neck-and-neck with Mahama among first-time voters. Both are currently at 44 percent each. Therefore, this election will hinge on the young voters. Whoever can win over the first-time voters will likely win the election.”
