The arrest took place at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra, where he held a press conference to announce himself as the new Guinness World Record holder for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.
This feat is yet to be confirmed by Guinness World Record.
According to our entertainment correspondents, the arrest on July 2, is in relation to misunderstanding between him and his sponsors, Amadia Shopping centre. He is said to have been detained at the La Police station.
Chef Smith’s sister, Ayram and his lawyer, Kofi Awoonor confirmed the arrest to 3news’ Job Laboja.

Chef Ebenezer Smith began his cook-a-thon on February 1 with the aim of surpassing the current record.
A post on his Facebook page hinted about the announcement of his achievement via a press conference on Tuesday, July 2, 2024.
Speaking at the news conference today, July 2, Chef Smith said, “I am deeply humbled and honored to announce that I am now the new world record holder for the cook-a-thon”.
The inscription on his Guinness World Record certificate, displayed during the event, reads: “The longest cooking marathon (individual) is 802 hours 25 minutes and was achieved by Ebenezer Smith (Ghanaian) in Spintex, Accra, Ghana. From 1 February to 6 March, 2024.”
The citation indicates that Chef Smith was accorded the record with a time of 802 hours and 25 minutes.
If confirmed, he would take over the record from the current holder Irishman Alan Fisher who cooked for 119 hours and 57 minutes.
Chef Smith embarked on his record attempt in March 2024 completing the attempt with an impressive 820 hours of cooking.
Chef Smith cooked for over a month. On March 5, his cook-a-thon drew a star-studded lineup of performers including Praye Tietia, Yaw Tog, Amerado, Kofi Jamar, and Asakaa Boys.
Throughout this extraordinary challenge, numerous celebrities, including Nana Ama McBrown, Clemento Suarez, Kwaku Manu, SDK, and OB Amponsah, visited the Amadia Shopping Centre at Spintex to show their support for the chef’s incredible feat.
